Michael in Big Dominguez Canyon in the Dominguez-Escalante Wilderness, Colorado.

Congratulations to Michael Krayna of Buena Vista, Colorado, winner of our Sawyer gear giveaway.

Michael won an assortment of water treatment filters and systems, plus a year's supply of insect repellent and sun protection ($450 total value), all thanks to the folks at Sawyer.

Michael's review of (coincidentally) his Sawyer Squeeze ("get water from almost any source") was randomly selected from the 96 outdoor gear reviews submitted by Trailspace members April 1-29.

Meet Michael

"Sweet!" said Michael on hearing he was our Sawyer gear winner. We asked him to introduce himself to the Trailspace community:

I am a father of three daughters (ages 7, 5, and 4), and husband to my wife Stacey. I love mountain biking, trail running, backpacking, and car camping, all things that Buena Vista has readily available, and I feel spoiled to be able to live here.

Growing up my dad was (and still is) an avid backpacker, and he introduced me and my siblings at a young age. As my own family has grown, I realized that I wanted to raise my kids in the mountains, so here we are. There is so much to see, and I have only scratched the surface.

Sawyer Prizes

Michael will receive all of the following outdoor gear, a $450 total value, thanks to Sawyer:

  • The 2-ounce Mini, Sawyer's lightest and most versatile personal water filtration system ($24.99)
  • The 3-ounce Squeeze— fill up the pouch, screw the filter directly onto the pouch, squeeze, and filter out bacteria, protozoa, and cysts ($59.99)
  • The new Select S1 system, which combines a proprietary foam membrane in a durable silicone bottle with a 0.1-micron hollow fiber filter ($59.99)
  • The 4L Gravity Filtration System, which is practically hands-free and filters 2 liters of water in as little as 90 seconds ($149.99)
  • A year's worth of insect repellent, including Permethrin Insect Repellent Treatment for Clothing, Gear, and Tents; Picaridin lotion, spray, and packets; Ultra 30; and Controlled Release
  • A year's worth of sunscreen, including Stay-Put SPF 30 sun protection

Congratulations, Michael! We hope you and your family enjoy your Sawyer prizes and stay hydrated and protected from the sun and bugs in Colorado!

Finally, thanks to everyone who shared helpful gear reviews. Each of you helps make Trailspace the best community and resource for finding and selecting gear for human-powered backcountry recreation.
