Patagonia Men's Crosstrek Hoody

Patagonia R1 that's warmer, stretchier, and more durable. What's not to like? This midlayer covers the exact temp range I was looking for, about 35-50 degrees with a baselayer on. I really like it, because it's Polartec Power Stretch Pro. It's actually very similar to the Houdini Power Houdini, only difference being the Houdini has the drawcord hem and hood, but the Patagonia hood fits PERFECT like always, so that's not an issue. It actually saves weight. A drawcord hem would be nice, but it would… Full review

Norrona Men's Trollveggen Powerstretch Pro Zip Hoodie

The Trollveggen Powerstretch Pro Zip Hoodie is a warm, functional, and stylish Polartec Power Stretch Pro fleece hoodie for the mountain life, that also works as high fashion in Norwegian circles. Stretch fit goes on well over a base layer and under both close and loose fitting shell layers. A great mid layer for cold weather ascents, with a hood to help keep moving without having to layer up when the wind comes up. The word norrøn (norr-RUHN, roll those Rs a little) is best translated as “Norse,”… Full review

U.S. Military ECWCS Gen II Brown Bear Jacket

I bought one of these a couple of years ago, not pretty but I did not buy it for that. I use it on the range by itself or under a shell. Brilliant. I am very much a layer person and this fits right in. Just recently got a Gen II ECWCS shell parka for $60, who could complain at a price like that for Goretex etc, as compared to other shell products at a couple of hundred more. It is winter here, sitting in my office and what am I wearing but this bear jacket. Great product, not pretty, but who cares. Full review

Rab Men's Nexus Pull-On

The Rab Nexus Pull-On fleece jacket is a comfortable, light, and warm mid-layer that breathes well and has an adjustable deep chest zip. Minor complaints include some pilling after 18 months of use, and a little floppiness in the collar. Rab is not as prevalent in the U.S. but I found this in a large coop online shop when searching for a lighter mid-layer. Previous fleece options for me were too bulky to pack along with a puffy, but now I can take both on cold weather trips as the Rab Nexus Pull-on… Full review

Montane Alpha Balance Jacket

A mix of a lightweight, hardwearing, stretch fleece and breathable wind resistant Polartec Alpha Direct. The placement of the Alpha fabric makes it perfect for use with a backpack. Fabric Performance This jacket is the perfect companion for a backpack trek/hike. The Polartec Alpha Direct fabric provides some weather and abrasion protection for the most exposed areas. The surface fabric covering the Alpha insulation has some PU mixed into it, which seems to add some durable water repellency. The… Full review

Helly Hansen Women's Daybreaker Fleece Jacket

High quality fleece that fits like a glove and does exactly what you want it to. It also clings to fuzz, dog fur, and scent. This is a high-quality fleece from HH, and although it's a basic piece it does exactly what you want it to. It's thin yet warm, layers great over a base layer and under another insulating layer, and dries quickly. I've used it for a full skiing season as a mid-weight base layer and around town on wet, 40-60 degree days under a shell. It fits like a glove and has a quality… Full review

Mountain Hardwear Monkey Man Jacket

Most comfy fleece jacket I own! If you are looking for the ultimate fleece jacket look no further. The fabric is so comfy I now wear it all the time! I'm 6 foot tall and the only problem is the arm length, but they have a thumb hole to have them well in place and keep your lower hands warm when needed.  Full review

Macpac Pisa Polartec Alpha Fleece Jacket

Most importantly, it fits me well and feels good against my skin. Winter base layer or lightweight midlayer I have recommended friends have a look and try this garment out. For the first time in an absolute age I have something from the iconic kiwi brand that actually fits and performs as the blurb says. I just bought a Pisa Polartec Alpha Fleece Jacket top on clearance just to see what they are like. The Pisa Polartec Hooded Jacket is a new product at a similar cost. First things first, it… Full review
