Backcountry.com says:
Combining the benefits of a rugged hiking boot with the tech of a mountaineering boot, Salomon's new X Alp Pro GTX Men's Mountaineering Boot is a serious offering for adventurers who are looking to move quickly over rocky approaches and moderately technical snow. The upper is made from a combination of full-grain leather and bombproof Cordura fabric, lined with comfortable textile, and finished off with a waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex Performance Comfort membrane that keeps your feet dry on the approach and the summit push. Unlike super-hardcore alpine boots, the X Alp has a flexible Mountaineering Contagrip sole, which allows you better purchase on rocky and uneven terrain, so you don't need to switch boots halfway through your climb. Combined with the 3D Edging chassis, this provides plenty of support and stability, while the EVA footbed and midsole and Ortholite sockliner work together to cushion your foot against repeated impacts. Salomon topped the X Alp off with a stretch gaiter and gusseted tongue to block snow and debris and gave it a heel strap, extra heel foam, and self-locking lace eyelets for a snug, secure, and comfortable fit.
