Nite Ize CamJam Cord Tightener

A cheap, light, and highly effective item that simplifies and speeds up hanging tarps, clotheslines, etc. It has other uses as well. Introduction A few years ago I purchased a couple of these Cam Jams to see if and how I could use them to improve my camp setup workflow. I like Nite Ize products and have a lot of their S-biners and other NI items around. It’s basic but simple, practical and well-made stuff. The Cam Jam is basically a cord tightener. As anyone who backpacks and camps knows, this… Full review

Clamcleat Line-Lok

ALL GRIP NO SLIP "There are many guy tensioners in the world, these ones are mine." There are a vast array of guy tensioners in the world: bushcrafty knots, weird aluminium hooks that appear designed for hunting alien fish, wooden bolts so you can cosplay as a Mongolian Head-of-the-Yurt. Some of them can be invaluable in specific circumstances, e.g. some alloy tensioners can easily and temporarily connect two separate guys together. However, for a standard backpacking tent nothing more than a Line-Lok is… Full review

MSR Ultralight Cord

This reflective cord is easy to tie knots, making it ideal for guy lines. The 2.5mm thickness is thick enough to work knots loose without a hassle, and is high visibility both night and day for easy spotting. MSR (Mountain Safety Research) has an extensive product line—not only tents, stoves, and water treatment, but accessories galore are available for every subcategory. When a shelter does not come with all the needed guy line, MSR’s Ultralight Cord is an excellent product to assist with stabilizing… Full review

MSR Hook Tent Stakes

These Hook tent stakes are a very impressive light duty stake for mild conditions, or where holding power is not an absolute necessity. Easy to set, easy to remove, easy to clean! MSR (Mountain Safety Research) has an impressive line of seven tent/shelter stakes, allowing users to customize their setup, based on location and conditions. Groundhog—MSR's gold standard—comes with many of their shelters Mini-Groundhog—Compact and lightweight CarbonCore—MSR's lightest full-strength stake Core—Lightweight… Full review

MSR Cyclone Tent Stakes

The Cyclone Tent Stake is designed for holding power without compromise. Ideal for loose soil or windy conditions, this is the go-to stake for ease of mind. Mountain Safety Research (MSR) has been a titan in the industry for decades, well known for their design and attention to detail. Regardless of one’s chosen shelter, upgrading/customizing stakes is a very important factor in ensuring a good night's rest.  Product testing the MSR Front Range Ultralight Tarp Shelter prompted additional needs… Full review

Nite Ize CamJam Cord Tightener

Idiot-proof ridgeline setup. Great for kids to use or someone extremely new to knots/hanging ridge lines. I bought these last minute to make it easy for my son to hang his tarp over his hammock. It really does not get any easier. Just a loop in one end and the hook end on the tarp tether. It takes no time. I can’t remember the total weight of these, but it was just a few ounces total in the plastic version. They also make an aluminum version for something a little more heavy duty. You just pull… Full review

TiTo 6 mm Titanium Tent Pegs

Extremely strong 6x145/165 mm titanium pegs for pitching on rocky, compacted, or frozen ground. Such pegs are successfully hammered into ground, which would otherwise damage any aluminum stake. Since 2016 I've owned several tunnel tents, which require four stable pegs for successful pitching: Hilleberg Kaitum 3, Nallo 3 and Fjallraven Abisko Lite 3 (all reviewed by me). Quite often the stock DAC J-stakes don't work well, namely on rocky, compacted or frozen ground. Hammering the peg in such conditions… Full review

Grand Shelters IceBox Igloo Tool

I've been building with this each winter, 1-2 per season, since 2012 in Banff National Park. Great tool once you've learned the fine details! Ideally you'd build this with three people—a form packer, form loader, and snow supplier/conditioner. I've done it solo, but of course it takes much longer and requires some innovation. Most important notes I have to offer users of this: Build the 7-foot model for your first attempt. You can ELIMINATE snow condition issues by making piles of snow and packing… Full review
