Osprey Exos 48

Great lightweight pack for overnights, or longer, if UL-savvy. I purchased the Exos 48 in 2015 and use it each year on summer overnight and somewhat longer trips where I can keep the load small and light. It weighs only 2.5 lbs with the lid attached. It's not designed to carry heavy loads, but what it does carry, it carries well. With clean lines, the pack has many features I find handy; none are superfluous. I have heard complaints about Osprey having omitted the small pockets on the waist and… Full review

Hyperlite Mountain Gear Prism Pack

The Hyperlite Mountain Gear Prism is a 40-liter alpine-focused pack with attachments designed to carry your axes, pickets, tools, crampons, screws, skis, etc. It carries heavy loads well, boasts a woven Dyneema face fabric on high wear areas so it's incredibly durable, and can be stripped down to be an ultralight climber's dream. Mountaineers, ski tourers, ice and rock climbers will all appreciate the level of design put into this pack. My one criticism is I am not a huge fan of the G hooks (not… Full review

Mystery Ranch Coulee 40

Excellent review. I agree almost completely with Andrew's assessment of the Coulee 40. This is a great overnight or weekend pack, depending on the amount of equipment you carry. I've had the Coulee 40 for only a short time, but it has all the same qualities that I've come to love from both Dana Gleason's companies, Dana Designs and Mystery Ranch. They all have a heritage of quality, excellent weight distribution harness and belt design, bulletproof stitching (despite being made overseas), and a… Full review

Mystery Ranch Coulee 40

The Coulee 40 could either be a really large daypack, think carry stuff for a small family, or serve you for overnights with lightweight gear. The two fiberglass stays help it carry quite a bit of weight comfortably, and the hip and lumbar pads are very good as well. The key feature that makes this backpack great is the three zippers that allow full access to everything. It's outstanding, my new favorite smaller backpack. BASIC DETAILS ABOUT THIS BACKPACK The Coulee 40 is a backpack from Mystery… Full review

Zpacks Arc Haul

Lightweight and very comfortable. Side pockets are ideal for water carry and large "front" net pocket is extremely convenient. Carries 10 days food (plus base weight gear) no problem. The Arc airflow makes for a very comfortable back. Medium torso, lumbar pad, and large belt. I have a 38-inch waist. I find the pack to be exceptionally comfortable. The adjustable height shoulder straps, loadlifters, and interchangeable padded belt with the "waist hugging" twin straps makes for a perfect fit. I also… Full review

Osprey Exos 46

A great bag for those wanting a lightweight pack for short trips and lightweight backpacking. The Osprey Exos is an excellent choice for short trips and lightweight hiking and trekking. There are lighter bags around, but they are much more expensive. The back is well thought through and comes with a host of useful features.  I bought this for trips lasting a few days on trails in the UK, such as the Brecon Beacons Way. I have found that there is enough room for all my gear and food especially if… Full review

The North Face Surge

Very good functional and well organized laptop and overnight pack for short and extended trips. Features multiple dedicated fleece-lined compartments including laptop, tablet, and documents sleeves, pockets for sunglasses, and phone and a padded top handle. I recently purchased this pack and took it on a business trip to Japan. There was enough storage area to pack my 15-inch laptop, accessories, sunglasses, phone, wallet, notebook, toiletries, hat, and one set of clothes. The shoulder straps are… Full review

Gossamer Gear Gorilla Ultralight

Best bag I've owned. This is the best through bag I've ever owned. Obviously, it's ultralight, but it's still a great price point. With the rolltop, I'm able to fit what I need for a seven-day through hike and have room for my bear canister. It sits perfectly on my back and shoulders (it comes in different sizes of bag and hip belt to ensure that it fits correctly). It hasn't torn for me despite pretty heavy use, although I've read in other reviews that rough handling means it might tear if caught… Full review
