Lightweight shoes great for water crossings or in camp, but maybe not both in the same day. Solid feeling sole protects the bottom of your feet while light minimalist upper keeps feet clean yet letting them breathe. With most of their weight coming from the footbed, these shoes trade lower weight for less protection. A terrific water shoe that can double as a recovery camp shoe. Lightweight and doesn't absorb water. Chaco Men's Outcross Evo 2

These shoes are great for hiking in or on the water. I got this shoe because I hike around and in shallow portions of some rivers and lakes in my area. I also take my dog to a dog park that borders the bay so I needed a pair of shoes like the Chacos to go in the water to play with my dog. He loves to swim and go into the water to fetch things. These shoes have limited use because they are not well cushioned to be useful for a long or medium hike. But they drain very well and dry out very quickly. Full review

Good compromise between a shoe and sandal that works well wet or dry. Background: I have only had these for four months but have walked around 100 km (60 miles). So far they have been very good. I got them for use in water on a trip to Lord Howe Island (World Heritage listed and fabulous—look it up), but my hiking boots fell apart on the first day so I finished up wearing them for everything: hiking, kayaking, coral reef walks, dinner, the lot. Vibram Women's FiveFingers KSO

I have been wearing my Vibrams for four years. I can hike a mile upriver on a wooded trail then float down through class 1/2 rapids. They form to your feet making it safer to climb on rocks which can be slimey and slippery. You could jog or run in them, but it is painful on the feet when there are rocks, ie gravel roads. I bought this product four years ago and still wear them whenever I go kayaking or for a float down the river at our house, basically any water sport where you don't want your feet… Full review
