The North Face Chilkat

Be aware...North Face ignores design faults. My love of their products has gone. These were bought purely as I had MS. They were excellent to keep my feet warm. I had the coat which was great. They split within 16 weeks. Our thick woollen lounge carpet is not exactly rough terrain! A design fault clearly ignored. God knows what you would do if North Face boots had split on the mountain. Really, sadly, not worth the risk. I am one of many that have had this happen. They try to put the blame on the… Full review

L.L.Bean Maine Hunting Shoes, 16"

Great tall boot that keeps your pants clean and your feet dry. I'm on my second pair. Had the first for decades; Bean replaced them, though I would have preferred a repair. Tuck your pants in these boots and your pants stay clean, dry, and tick-free [I bug spray the leather uppers] while keeping your feet warm and dry. These boots are light and really only need minimal break in if any. They are uninsulated, but with two pairs of wool socks I've worn them many times snowshoeing to about 20°f. Put… Full review

L.L.Bean Men's Bean Boots, 10" Shearling-Lined

Comfortable, not as warm as advertised, slippery, don't work like a 10" boot. I've had mine two years. To me they are an excellent two-season [spring/fall] boot and just so so in cold [below ten f] winter temps though I believe they are rated to -20°. I could probably do 0°F in mine if very active but then I'd likely have a different boot on. This all with two pair of wool socks. Why the tongue isn't sewn all the way up the boot is beyond me. This makes stepping in a 6-inch puddle probably impossible… Full review

Danner Men's Raptor 650

The surprisingly lightweight and versatile Danner Raptor 650 handled everything I threw at it this winter, all while keeping my feet warm and dry in snowy and cold conditions. With an interesting outer made of leather and wool, coupled with generous PrimaLoft insulation and waterproofing powers, the boots have made my feet very happy during the cold and wet winter. Testing Conditions:I’ve worn the Danner Raptor 650 boots for three months during the winter, predominantly in the mountains and valleys… Full review

Sorel Men's Caribou

Just bought a pair of Caribous from a vendor on eBay, new. They are described as leather, but were treated and are more like suede. Put them in my sink with water and water soaked through the suede. Not waterproof and not leather. Full review

The North Face Men's Chilkat

I live and work in Yosemite National Park. Our employee uniform shop routinely sells these Chillkat boots, and yes, from experience they do run 1-2 sizes smaller than normal! I wear a men's 7; I had to get a 9 to fit comfortably and snug on me. They are comfortable, at first, but here is one HUGE problem—they leak! See more below... My rubber uppers haven't broken apart yet, but we are in deep snow all the time working, and I couldn't figure out why my feet were so cold and then numb at the end… Full review

Steger Mukluks CamuksXtreme

Potentially superb boot for cold snow travel. Almost nonexistent customer service. Loved my Steger Arctic Mukluks until a stick tore open the moose hide. I considered it an unfortunate accident, not a product flaw. I bought another pair. This second pair were Steger CamuksXtreme Mukluks, an upgrade. The uppers developed little holes where laces crossed and chafed. This I considered a product flaw. On November 2, 2018 I contacted Steger through their website. They responded in two weeks. I followed… Full review

The North Face Women's Chilkat

Epic fail of rubber on toe box. Loved these boots for warmth, traction, support, and fit. Have always cleaned them up and put them away in the original box. They were almost in new condition but the toe box fell apart, luckily, just as I was returning from a hike in the snow. Very disappointed. It appears this has happened to quite a few people. I hope North Face corrects the problem. Full review

The North Face Men's Chilkat

Not durable! Pretty comfortable boots, but I wore them maybe twice a year for five years, and then last night the rubber portion broke away from the leather just like these other reviewers experienced. I'll order new boots from someone else next time. Full review
