Kinco Hydroflector Buffalo Mitt

Warm and durable leather mitts have been a recent favorite, and I love the budget price. Knit wrists keep out the cold, and an innovative pocket on the back of the hand lets you put in hand warmer packs. Important to treat these with waterproofing, they’re kind of a sponge otherwise. One oddity I didn’t expect is that the interior has fuzzy separators for each finger, so they have a glove-like feel underneath the mitten. Spacious if you want to wear a liner and extend the temperature range. Full review

The North Face Etip Recycled Gloves

Excellent light glove for mildly cold temps, where you need to use your electronics. These are my go-to light gloves. They are great for ascents where I am working hard and am generating heat, but temps are still freezing. I throw these in my cargo pant pockets so I can quickly thrown them on or off as needed. They weigh just 2 ounces, so keeping them in my pack year round is not an issue. They are also great for summer nights around camp when temps have dropped. They also work well enough with… Full review

Black Diamond Mercury Mitts

Very good mittens that fit well. They are pretty warm but YMMV. Having a light case of Raynaud's Syndrome (some fingers get cold and won't warm up), I have often struggled to find ski/snowboard gloves and mittens that will work in colder temperatures (below 32F/0C). Now in the Pacific Northwest, temperatures at ski areas typically range from the high teens to the low 30s. After some research, I settled on the Black Diamond Mercury Mitts (Men's). I had very high hopes for them being warm at the colder… Full review

Endura Freezing Point Lobster Glove

A glove developed for winter bicycling that works well for cross-country skiing. Tough water resistant outer shell, flexible and warm lining. Semi-mitt design keeps the two outside fingers together and warmer than conventional gloves.     I won these gloves as a door prize in a fatbike race and decided to try them out on the cross-country ski trails. My third finger from my left thumb was seriously injured years ago and has always been sensitive to cold weather. The "lobster claw" design bundles… Full review

Ganka Expedition Mittens

If you NEED to keep your hands warm in the coldest temps, these are the mittens you want. Just don’t plan on being able to do anything with your hands while wearing them. When I got out of the army in December 1998 I went back to Maine and started hanging out with friends from high school. One of the things we got back into was ice fishing. I was all set for warm clothing but needed boots and hand protection. A trip to Kittery Trading Post in Kittery, Maine, took care of that; I went home with… Full review

Black Diamond Soloist Gloves

A warm glove for winter that’s very comfortable. Removable liner, leather palm, and a proprietary waterproof/breathable membrane in the shell highlight the features that help make this a good cold weather companion. Surprising warmth for the price point, balanced by somewhat limited use of your fingers. A step down from the well-reviewed Black Diamond Guide Glove in anticipated durability. Palm view Back of hand view BACKGROUND I purchased the Black Diamond Soloist glove to serve as my everyday… Full review

Patagonia R1 Daily Gloves

This is a lightweight shoulder season glove, or it’s also useful as a liner glove. I like the larger-than-normal "grab loops" because they’re easy to snap into a light carabiner. The swirlies on the palm look funky, but don’t expect them to provide much grippiness. The pointer fingers are touchscreen compatible. Pricy, but very useful.  BACKGROUND The gloves. They clip together, nice for such a light glove. out for a walk, mid-30s.  backhand view Sized from XS to XL, the R1 Daily gloves… Full review

Black Diamond Super Light Mitts

Cold fingers no more. Waterproof shell, decent insulation, and a long wrist cover keeps the cold out. My wife suffers from cold hands. Smaller gloves are great for ascending when we are working hard. But the peak and descent = cold. Enter the BD Super Light Mitts. These are a premium glove with great materials and a good amount of insulation. We've tested these on numerous high elevation >9k feet summits and they are worth their weight. The size small tops the scale at 8.7 oz. Below you can see… Full review

Under Armour Core Liner Gloves

These are nice, lightweight gloves for people who need a lot of dexterity and only a little warmth. They work well in everyday life because of the touchscreen grid, and they are more dexterous than a typical liner.  Fit and Comfort: Fits well and is comfortable. These gloves fit my hands like a, well, glove. They have 10% elastane, so they are skin hugging. This improves dexterity and improves their function as liner gloves, which most people will use them as. The fabric, while nothing special,… Full review
