Win your copy of Andrew Skurka's "Gear Guide"

Want to learn how long-distance hiker Andrew Skurka takes care of his feet? What he uses to purify water? How he selects a campsite? How he arrived at a "chocolate centric diet?"

These answers and more can be found in The Ultimate Hiker's Gear Guide, Skurka's first book on the gear and supplies he uses, based on more than 30,000 miles traveled via foot, ski, and packraft.

And you could win a free copy. We're giving away three copies of The Ultimate Hiker's Gear Guide next week, thanks to National Geographic.

Here's how you can win one of our three copies of Skurka's The Ultimate Hiker's Gear Guide:

  1. Like us on Facebook. We'll randomly select one Facebook fan after March 31 to receive a copy of the book, plus some Trailspace swag.
  2. Follow us on Twitter. We'll randomly select one Twitter follower after March 31 to receive a copy of the book, plus some Trailspace swag.
  3. Write March's "Most Helpful" gear review, as determined by community votes. We'll include a copy in the goodie pack we send to the author of the review rated "most helpful" for March. (Don't forget to click "Yes" after "Was this review helpful?" whenever you read a standout review.)

Ready to win a copy of The Ultimate Hiker's Gear Guide from National Geographic? Follow us and write your great gear review now.

We'll announce the winners next week.

If I don't win a copy I"m putting this book right into the Amazon shopping cart.  I've been a fan of Andrew for quite a while, and I can't wait to read his book.

It's an excellent book and recommended for any beginner and advanced trekker alike.

Thanks to everyone who followed, liked us, and wrote some great gear reviews in March in the hopes of winning a copy of Andrew's book from National Geographic.

We were excited to name our Ultimate Hiker's Gear Guide winners earlier this week:

  • Twitter follower: Geko Equipment
  • Facebook fan: Troopfiftyeight HornetPatrol
  • And March's most helpful gear reviewer, who will be announced in the next week...

Thanks, everyone!

If you didn't win this time, go write a Backcountry Gear Haiku and you'll be in the running for $500 we're giving away from

Good stuff. Congrats to the winners.
