I have been researching PLB's and want to get one for safety sake:

So I have been looking into Personal Locator Beacons.....
 WHY
It all depends on what you what it for.....
Spot 3  Is both a PLB and you can send pre-programmed messagesSignal Strength: .4 watts (the weakest signal)Great to let your loved know know you are safe and where you are.
DeLorme is both a PLB and you can send texts back and forthSignal Strength:  1.6 watts (a little better)Great to keep in touch with people thru texting
ResQLink is only a PLB Signal Strength:  5.0 Watts (The strongest)NO texting or pre-programmed messages
SO:The best one is based upon what you are looking for.
- My friend Bob's wife worries about him so for Bob the best feature is that his wife will know he is OK. Spot 3- Want to keep in touch and text then you want the Delorme- Need the PLB to get help when needed - the ResQLink is the best.

Cost over 4 years (all excluding tax):
- ResQLink   $280.00 total for 4 years, no service charge but a $150.00 fee at the end of the 4 years for a new battery and servicing of the unit.  Total $430.00
- Spot $75.00 cost plus tax (net of $75.00 rebate), $150.00 a year service so for 4 years $675.00 plus batteries.
- Delorme $300-$400 unit cost plus service that varies based upon how you use if so figure $150.00 per year of $900-$1,000 over 4 years plus batteries....

So if you are looking for strictly safety the ACR ResQLink has a significantly stronger signal and the best.  IF you want pre-programmed messaging then the Spot 3 is the best.  IF you  want texting capabilities the you need to look at the Delorme...
