Win the Akka from Hults Bruk, World's Oldest Axe Maker

We're celebrating centuries of Scandinavian craftsmanship this month with three premium gear giveaways from Hults Bruk, Helle Knives, Nordic Pocket Saw, and Kupilka.

First up, Hults Bruk, the oldest active axe maker in the world, is giving one Trailspace member a hand-forged Akka forester's axe. Functional and elegant, Hults Bruk axes are handcrafted in the company's Swedish forge, which has been in continual operation since 1697. Our winner also gets a grinding stone to maintain that sharp edge (total prize value $213).

Review your gear by October 10 for a chance to win this timeless Hults Bruk gear.

Enter to Win:

  • Write a review now through Thursday, October 10, of your own outdoor gear, apparel, or footwear.
  • Every complete, qualifying review submitted October 1-10 counts as an entry. Yes, you're automatically entered, every time.
  • On Friday, October 11, we'll draw one eligible reviewer to win this prize, the first in our Scandinavian series.

We're giving one lucky Trailspace member a premiere piece of Swedish craftsmanship with a Hults Bruk Akka forester's axe and Grinding Stone.

Whether splitting wood for a fall campfire, clearing trails of overgrowth, or practicing your bushcraft skills, the Akka is ideal for overnight wilderness trips, forestry, and trail work.

The Akka's 1.5-pound axe head is hand-forged from Swedish axe steel in the Hults Bruk forge, which has been in continual operation since 1697.

Paired with a long, curved 24-inch American hickory handle, the Akka has exceptional leverage and power in a lightweight package of just 2.2 pounds. It features a straight knife-ground edge and a finger notch near the neck for carving ($169).

A Hults Bruk axe is a functional and unique piece of history, heritage, and art that will last for generations.

The Grinding Stone will help keep your Akka in prime condition for years. It has a 180-grain rough side and 600-grain fine side and is designed to give a steady grip while regaining axe sharpness ($44).

All complete, qualifying reviews received October 1-10 count as entries. The winner will be drawn and notified on October 11.

Win More Heritage Gear:

Thanks to Hults Bruk, Helle Knives, Nordic Pocket Saw, and Kupilka, we have even more premium gear to give away this month.

And on Friday, November 1, we'll give one more Trailspace member a Hults Bruk Jonaker hatchet ($129) and a Premium Nordic Pocket Saw ($119). That's three winners for three timeless prizes in one month. Just review your own gear starting today and you're entered to win for the entire month.

Good tools but rarely used for backpacking.  I carry an axe on river trips but bring an older one in case we have a capsize.  I hide the axe if people starting drinking.  I bring an axe sometimes for car camping trips but rarely use it except for splitting kindling.

Thses are good tools.  I have many axes and log tools, some made in Sweden.  Just be careful when using them.

Pretty impressive Giveaways if you ask me. I didn't see the four items, besides the axe, also listed until now.

Thanks, Old Guide!

We're grateful to the folks at Hults Bruk, Helle, Kupilka, and Nordic Pocket Saw for this very generous donation of some amazing gear. It's fun to be able to give away such high quality products to three members.

Winner #1 (for the Hults Bruk Akka axe and Grinding Stone) has been drawn this morning and emailed and will be announced once confirmed.

But, we still have two more winners to come:

Were I to win the Hults Bruk Akka, ppine, I would also make damn certain it wasn't missused. I have a Fiskars Forest Axe I don't mind lending to anyone with a glint in their eye, but the funny thing is that I wouldn't lend any of my Bark River's to someone who didn't know what they were doing, even though the Barkie can take more abuse.

I hate to say it so bluntly, ppine, but get the $38 axe so that you can be assured your companions don't ruin your nice shit. Let them fuck up that one while you keep striking good hits on your babies. It's likely the best way to keep everyone happy.

Alicia and all others interested: please forgive my callousness. I swear simply because I enjoy doing so. I hope you don't disagree.
